Our Growing Practices
Hormones and Steroids
George’s does not use hormones or steroids when raising chickens, in accordance with federal law.
Antibiotics
George’s uses antibiotics only when necessary to protect the health and well-being of our chickens.
- We do not routinely use antibiotics that are important for human medicine.
- When animals become sick, they are treated with FDA-approved medications under the guidance of a board-certified poultry veterinarian.
- Chickens raised for our retail brand Georges Farmers Market® are raised with no antibiotics, ever.
Georges Farmers Market®: Feeding US-Sourced Grains
Chickens raised for our Georges Farmers Market® brand are fed a diet of wholesome, U.S.-sourced grains. We believe quality in leads to quality out.
- Sourcing grains domestically allows for:
- Greater consistency and quality control
- Oversight through established U.S. inspection and grading standards
- Improved traceability and integrity of feed ingredients
U.S.-sourced grains benefit from oversight by the Federal Grain Inspection Service, which establishes uniform quality standards and inspection systems. This ensures consistency, integrity, and confidence in the grains used to feed our chickens.
Animal Well-Being
George’s is committed to the ethical treatment of animals and follows the National Chicken Council’s (NCC) animal welfare guidelines for broiler chickens.
- These guidelines establish best practices for:
- Housing and stocking density
- Feed and water access
- Veterinary care and humane handling
- Breeding, inoculation, and ventilation
All employees who work with animals and all independent contract growers receive annual training on George’s animal welfare policies.
